ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES OF SQUARES FORMATION IN TOWNS-FORTRESSES OF WESTERN SIBERIA (THE LAST THIRD OF THE XVII TH – THE LAST THIRD OF THE XVIII TH CENTURY)

Abstract. The author reveals the architectural features of squares formation in the towns-fortresses of Western Siberia (the last third of the XVII th – the last third of the XVIII th century), as the objects of the research considers the ensembles of squares in the Siberian towns-fortresses (Tomsk, Omsk, Biisk), differentiates the following stages of a growing town: a military fortress, a shopping center, a center of agricultural development; and believes that a town planning principle of squares formation is determined by the specificity of the planning structure of the dominant elements of a town-fortress.
