Abstract. The authors consider the reasons and social composition of Kronstadt revolt of 1921, give the analysis of traditional views on the problem ??in national historiography, show the degree of participation and the motives of various social groups of the rebels - the Baltic Fleet sailors, peasants, workers, marginal persons, for the first time pay attention to the active participation of Cossacks from Southern Russia and Ukraine in the rebellion, and conclude that the main motivation of Kronstadt various social groups’ participation in the rebellion was the problems of food supply for the crews, garrison and civilian population of the fortress.
