THE RUSSIAN PRISONERS OF WAR LABOUR USE IN GERMANY AND AUSTRIA-HUNGARY DURING WORLD WAR I

Abstract. The author reveals the features of the Russian prisoners of war labour use in Germany and Austria-Hungary during World War I, pays special attention to the specificity of working prisoners allocation, the spheres of their employment, the ways of prisoners attraction for work execution, the features of the legislation regarding enemy prisoners of war labour use, also emphasizes the significance of prisoners of war labour for the economy of these countries under the war conditions, and comes to the conclusion that the use of prisoners of war labour allowed Germany and Austria-Hungary not only supplying labour shortages, but also compensating all prisoners living expenses.
