PRIVATE COMMITTEE AND EDUCATION SYSTEM REFORMATION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article deals with the role of the members of the Private Committee in the reformation of general, higher and military education system in the Russian Empire at the beginning of the reign of Alexander I. In this connection the state of educational sphere in the mentioned period, the suggestions and projects of the staff of the Emperor on its transformation, their activity in the field of education are studied. The author grounds the proposition that the basis for the reforms was the conception developed by the members of the Committee on the organization of public education based on the principles of humanism, non-class character, availability and in accordance with the general system of the state governance.
