GAZI-KERMAN - THE TURKISH FORTRESS OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XVII CENTURY AT THE BOARDER OF THE CRIMEAN KHANATE

Ignat'eva Alena Viktorovna
Saint Petersburg State University

Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing the fortification of the fortress Gazi-Kerman at the end of the XVII century, which allows reconstructing the battle between the troops of Peter the First and the Turkish and Tatar forces during the first Azov-Dnieper campaign in 1695. The issue of architectural school, to which the fortress belonged, is still debatable. The author pays special attention to the peculiar features and key stages of the development of fortress building in the Crimean Peninsula and the Ottoman Empire. On the basis of the analysis of the Turkish and Tatar fortresses the researcher concludes that Gazi-Kerman is similar to the Turkish architectural school of the middle of the XVII century.
