Abstract. The article is devoted to Valery Aleksandrovich Gavrilin, an outstanding composer of the XX century and an extraordinary creative personality. It focuses on the style peculiarities, the range of images and the genre musical palette of the composer’s heritage. The evolution of his creative works is traced by considering separate periods, new traits to the composer’s image are identified. V. Gavrilin’s creative works are considered in close correlation with the main tendencies of the epoch and appear to be the display of the national sovereign principle in the Russian culture.
