PHILOSOPHICAL UNDERSTANDING OF INTERACTION OF THE RUSSIAN AND WESTERN CULTURES

Abstract. The article proclaims the urgency of understanding the interrelations of the Western and Russian cultures investigating the issue about the possibility for including Russia into the cultural area of the West. The author identifies and investigates the basic tendencies in the solution of this problem, analyzes the arguments of the participants of the discussion. The researcher stands for the importance of the critical valuation of the Western cultural elements, their creative interpretation, and the priority of the basic distinctive features of the Russian national self-consciousness.
