THE 60 TH ARMY FIGHTING NEAR Voronezh IN JULY 1942

Abstract. In the article the offensive operation of the 60th Army of the second formation near Voronezh in July 1942 is under study. On the basis of archival documents the author reveals the objective of the offensive, characterizes the parts of the Army on the eve of the baptism of fire, covers the course of fighting on the river Don interfluve and the outskirts of Voronezh in a condensed form, considers the reasons of temporary failures. Previously unknown examples of the soviet soldiers’ heroic feats are given.
