WORK OF BODIES OF PEOPLE’S COMMISSARIAT FOR INTERNAL AFFAIRS (MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS) AND "SMERSH" ON IDENTIFICATION OF BETRAYERS AMONG THE FORMER SOVIET WAR PRISONERS IN PERIOD OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR AND THE FIRST POSTWAR YEARS

Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of the specific type of the activity of the bodies of the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs (Ministry of Internal Affairs), the Ministry of State Security and "SMERSH" on the inspection (filtering) of the soviet citizens, who returned from the German captivity during the Great Patriotic War, in relation to their collaboration with the enemy. The author characterizes the peculiarities of the filtering process and describes the system of the filtering bodies that were a part of the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs (Ministry of Internal Affairs) and the People’s Commissariat of Defence, which directly made the inspection.
