Abstract. By the example of the life of Helen of Troy the issue of the correlation of aesthetic and ethical principles in the antique culture is considered. Myth is understood as a form of the self-discovery of the ancient Greeks, who expressed their knowledge about the world and human being not in religious dogmata, scientific notions and philosophical categories, but in a special artistic form, which pointed out the internal moral meaning of an event and aroused an aesthetic feeling of delight or aversion in a human.
