DISCOVERY OF DISEASE EXISTENTIAL IN THE EUROPEAN MIDDLE AGES

Abstract. In the article the cultural and historical circumstances of the discovery of the existential plan of the disease made in the medieval West are analyzed. Referring to the common procedures for the qualification of patients there and to the system of legitimized actions towards them the author shows what cultural attitudes and practices of the High and Late Middle Ages formed the perception of the disease as an existential parameter by the Europeans.
