HISTORY OF PRINT MEDIA ORIGIN IN NIGERIA

Abstract. The article is devoted to the history of print media origin in Nigeria, which are represented from the first newspaper founded by the English missionaries to newspapers created by the Nigerian journalists. The paper shows how the content of the print news media changed in the period from the second half of the XIX century till the middle of the XX century. The article notes also the development of the print media from purely educational publications to publications aimed at the popularization of national identity. The authors analyze the print press; mention famous journalists and publishers, who played prominent role in the foundation of the print information publications of Nigeria at that time.
