SCIENCE AS SOCIAL-CULTURAL PHENOMENON: PLURALISM OF MODELS AND SOURCES OF DEVELOPMENT

Abstract. The article substantiates the relevance of the analysis of science as a structured social-cultural phenomenon. The definition of science is given. Reasons for the steady increase of the role of science in the world are mentioned. The process of the institutionalization of science is considered, an overview of its structural elements is presented, and the latest trends in the changes of science are singled out. The author compares the models of science development, including alternative ones: externalism and internalism. The complex of the sources of development is analyzed from the author’s point of view, and practical recommendations are suggested.
