Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of archival data related to the numerical, confessional and ethnic composition of the population of the town of Kiliya and Kiliya district villages in the second half of the XVIII century. Kiliya Fortress (the south region of the Prut-Dniester interfluve region), which was under the direct control of the Turkish authorities, played an important role in the Russian-Turkish wars in 1768-1774 and 1767-1791. Elaboration on archival materials allows determining the actual number of the population, its confessional and ethnic composition and making conclusion about the poly-ethnic nature of the population that lived in Kiliya district in the second half of the XVIII century.
