LEO SIROTA AND HIS PLACE IN FORMATION OF THE JAPANESE PIANO CULTURE

Abstract. The article is devoted to the Russian pianist, who became one of the founders of the Japanese piano school. The review of the life course of L. Sirota is given, the features of his creative personality are revealed. Some data are put into the use of the modern Russian musicology for the first time. The author concludes that the exceptional significance of the results of L. Sirota’s activity in Japan is conditioned first of all by the fact that he having realized the Russian piano traditions acted as an extremely outstanding representative of virtuosic romantic style.
