SYMBOLISM OF ORNAMENT LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article analyses ornament as a specific sign system in the framework of design philosophy transmitting esthetic information by means of a special language. The central research problem is the examining of ornament in semiotic aspect. It is shown that ornament represents a sociocultural phenomenon using a special artificial language of signs (symbols). It is proved that the language of ornament is a system of the specific means of expressiveness (pictorialism) transmitting special esthetic information about the world and the human being.
