METAMORPHOSES OF THE WALTZ GENRE IN QUARTETS BY D. D. SHOSTAKOVICH

Abstract. The article concerns different genre roles of waltz in quartets by D. D. Shostakovich. It accentuates two varieties of waltz modifications - the genre transformation and the genre synthesis obtaining different semantic modes depending on specific situations and common dramaturgic directions of quartets. As a result, the tragic constituent of waltz nature in the composer’s quartets growing to the late period of his creative work is revealed.
