RITUAL OF NOTIFICATION OF THE BRIDE’S INNOCENCE IN WEDDING CEREMONIAL RITES OF THE CHUVASH PEOPLE

Abstract. The purpose of the article is to show the customs and rituals associated with the public notification of the innocence of the bride in traditional Chuvash wedding. In this regard, the folk ideas of chastity and the typical ways of innocence examination established in the wedding ritual are considered. The author concludes that this ritual favored the observance of moral principles and virtue standards in the rural society and as one of the customary law norms performed an important social regulative function.
