MOON CALENDAR AND SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC IN CHINESE EVERYDAY CULTURE

Abstract. The article describes the specifics of the Chinese moon calendar and calendar year, analyzes its cultural importance, retells a famous legend on the origin of twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac and examines their cultural meaning directly associated with the everyday labour of the Chinese peasants. The author concludes that the cultural meaning and cultural importance of the Chinese Zodiac differ in Russia and in China.
