MIKHAIL OSIPOVICH ATTAIA AND HIS CONTRIBUTION INTO THE RUSSIAN ORIENTAL STUDIES (ACCORDING TO THE ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS OF LAZAREV INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL LANGUAGES)

Abstract. On the basis of the archival materials of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages the article discovers the unknown facts from the biography of the famous Russian orientalist of Syrian origin M. O. Attaia. The paper examines in detail his scientific and pedagogical activity, analyzes his contribution into the domestic oriental studies development. In the pre-revolutionary and Soviet period M. O. Attaia came out as a propagator of Arabic language and literature in Russia and Russian language and culture at the Middle East.
