ROCKET WEAPON APPLICATION IN THE NAVY IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article considers the attempt of using rocket weapon as naval artillery in the Imperial Russian Navy. Special attention is paid to considerable contribution of scientist and inventor K. I. Konstantinov into the distribution of rocketry. The author reveals the basic tactical objectives of rocket artillery under the conditions of sea battles, traces the change of rocket functions: from weapon to a rescue device. The paper emphasizes the necessity to preserve rocket weapon within the Navy for domestic rocket engineering.
