EDUCATION AND INDIVIDUAL READING AS STRATEGies of SYMBOLIC ACTIVITY

Abstract. In the article reading practice is analyzed as a symbolic activity that involves various strategies. Education is identified as a specific strategy of a symbolic activity and its essential features are revealed in positive and negative aspects. Reading in the context of education, on the one hand, is the opening of access to the common symbolic space as a cultural and historical integrity, on the other hand, it can be considered as a passive activity, regulated by exception procedures and the prescription of the canon and the way of interpretation. Another strategy of a symbolic activity, presented in the article, is individual reading, which is characterized by the emphasis on the active role of the subject of reading, and his independent activity in the formation of the symbolic space.
