"WATER FESTIVAL - ODE TO LIFE" BY ARTIST YUAN YUNSHENG AS A SIGN WORK OF THE MODERN CHINESE MONUMENTAL ART

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of self-expression of artists in China during the period of reforms and openness. The fate of the work of artist Yuan Yunsheng "Water Festival - Ode to Life" (1979) and the public resonance caused by fresh ideas and images of this monumental work are analyzed. The article analyzes the changes in the social thought under the influence of new tendencies in art. As a result of the research, the author comes to the conclusion that the creation of Yuan Yunsheng’s picture was a turning point in the art of modern China.
