Abstract. The article investigates genesis and development of classical rationalism. The initial idea of this philosophical paradigm is the principle of identity of thinking and being, which goes back to Plato’s theory of ideas and Aristotle’s teachings about the form. The paper notes a great contribution made by Spinoza, who managed to unite two substances (God and Nature) into one - God-Nature. Spinoza’s pantheism found its continuation in Hegel’s panlogical system that represents the top of classical rationalism.
