VIEWS OF THE ADYGHEAN INTELLECTUAL ELITE OF THE XIX - THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY ON THE PROBLEM OF RUSSIAN-KABARDINIAN HISTORICAL COOPERATION

Abstract. The article examines the views of the representatives of the pre-revolutionary Adyghean intellectual elite on the problem of interrelations of Kabarda and Russia in the XVI-XIX centuries. In particular, the author analyzes works by I. Atazhukin, Sh. B. Nogmov, Khan-Girey, V. N. Kudashev, B. Shardanov et al. The representatives of the national intellectual elite stood out for union of the Adyghe peoples with Russia, for mutually beneficial Russian-Adyghean cooperation in all the spheres of social life. At the same time they opposed application of violence towards the North Caucasian peoples, including the Adyghe people, and appealed to find peaceful means to join the mountain communities to Russia.
