TECHNOCRATIC UTOPIA AND BUCOLIC REALITY: THE BOLSHEVIKS, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY OF THE 1920S

Abstract. In the article within the framework of the conception of socio-technical imaginary, attitude of Bolshevik authorities to technology and its propaganda is analyzed. The main reasons for importance of development of science and technology for the country’s leaders in the 1920s are listed, the basic peculiarities of its representation to the population as well as causes that prevented acceptance of technocratic ideals by the society are shown. The author comes to the conclusion that one of the main reasons for failure to realize bold technical projects initiated by the authorities was cultural resistance of a part of the society caused by technical backwardness and illiteracy.
