KAZAKH TRADITIONAL CULTURE IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS OF WESTERN SIBERIA

Abstract. The article analyzes museum collections of regional, district, rural and school museums of Omsk and Novosibirsk regions, the Altai territory and the Altai Republic. Proposing a survey of museum funds the authors conclude that the modern Kazakh community of Western Siberia, accumulating the experience of inter-ethnic cooperation, preserves the foundations of original culture. Museum collections are considered as sources of cultural and historical memory. Museum collections get greater importance in the context of modern Russia’s sociocultural transformations causing the extinction of traditions; and certain elements of the authentic Kazakh culture (for example, the nyurt) acquire the meaning of universal ethnic symbols.
