Abstract. The article is devoted to analyzing in socio-cultural context the process of introducing the periodical press in Arabic countries in the period of transition from the traditional Ottoman society of the end of the XIX century to the modern society of the first half of the XX century. The authors examine the peculiarities of traditional conditions for information distribution and how the growing Arabic press tried to satisfy them.
