Abstract. The conception offered in the article considers experiments in the sphere of the sound of the piano at the intersection of their theoretical generalization and implementation. The most significant works written by domestic and American researchers at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries act as scientific material. Composer’s experience is presented by separate piano compositions by A. N. Tcherepnin: this enabled to approach the announced subject most universally - in its historical and intercultural aspects and also to unite interests not only of composers and source-study experts, but also of modern performers.
Key words and phrases: история фортепиано, современная музыка, инструментоведение, нетрадиционные приёмы игры, Александр Николаевич Черепнин, piano history, modern music, study of instruments, non-traditional playing techniques, Alexander Nikolaevich Tcherepnin
