THEATRE CRITICISM ON THE INFLUENCE OF BERTOLT BRECHT’S EPIC THEATRE ON ROBERT STURUA’S PERFORMANCES

Abstract. The article deals with the widespread idea about the director Robert Sturua as a follower of Bertolt Brecht’s epic theater. Analyzing the discussions on the master’s works in this aspect, the author comes to the conclusion that this point of view is not proved. This conclusion as well as the reasons revealed in the article, causing to search for the roots of conditional theaters in the theory of epic theater, will be useful for theater theoreticians and practitioners, as well as for the teachers of theatrical higher education establishments in the courses of theater theory and during workshops on theater history and criticism.
