Abstract. The article examines the national and cultural characteristics of the wishes of good and evil among the representatives of the Turkic and Slavic language groups. The topicality of the study is conditioned by the insufficient attention of modern linguists to the implementation of complex comparative studies of good wishes and curses by the material of unrelated languages. It is noted that the language units under study are the oldest layer of folk literature, the origin of which is connected with the faith of ancient people in the magical power of a word. The similarity of the internal form of the analyzed units by the material of unrelated languages makes it possible to consider them from the standpoint of culturological universals.
