Abstract. On the basis of the systemic analysis of archival materials of Nizhny Novgorod and Penza provinces of the first half of the XIX century the author examines the problem of ideological influence of different authority levels on the upper class’s consciousness. The paper identifies both the adopted authoritative practices typical of the Russian Empire and regional mechanisms to form officially prescribed loyal moods, value orientations and behavioural models of the provincial nobility. Special attention is paid to feedback channels, officially adopted and real provincial attitudes, which tended to be more oppositional in the mentioned period.
