Abstract. For the first time in historiography, the article considers the history of the studies conducted by the USSR Academy of Sciences in the 1950-1960s and dedicated to a wide range of issues regarding transport and logistics development of Yakutia territories located behind the northern polar circle. Using previously unknown archival materials, the author makes a survey of the most important studies on the problem and analyses the acquired scientific results.
