Abstract. The study aims to determine the impact that money culture has on the process of sociocultural modernisation. The article identifies two approaches to solving this issue. Within the first approach, money culture creates conditions for linearity of modernisation, as it promotes countability of social phenomena. Within the second one, money culture equals diversity of financial attitudes, which influences nonlinearity of modernisation. Scientific novelty of the work lies in interdisciplinary consideration of the issue using theoretical models of economics, social and cultural studies and philosophy. As a result, it was ascertained that money culture, as a factor of sociocultural modernisation, performs both the unifying function and the differentiating one.
