TRANSMISSION OF EPITHETS WHILE TRANSLATING FROM YAKUT INTO ENGLISH

Abstract. The article examines a problem of transmission of an epithet as an artistic and expressive means which under translation from Yakut into English causes special difficulties due to the variety of epithets in the Yakut heroic epos olonkho. In the investigated epos we meet with the figurative, comparative and metaphorical epithets, and to preserve them is a difficult task for an interpreter. The author identified how the transmission of epithets in the translation influenced the figurative nature of the text.
