SPECIFICITY OF POLYPHONY OF SARATOV VOLGA REGION SONGS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF PAVLOVKA VILLAGE AND DUKHOVNITSKOYE SETTLEMENT FOLKLORE)

Abstract. The article examines peculiarities of the polyphonic version of Russian traditional songs, identifies their semantics and some features of the musical style. Special attention is paid to a unique form of polyphonic texture - two-register aleatory composition - which is used in wedding songs in combination with the bride’s lamentation. The study is based on materials gathered during the author’s expeditions to Saratov Volga region.
