Abstract. In the article the controversial questions of the Kalmyk folklore studying from cognitive linguistics positions are considered, the difficulties of folklore genres research, which are fixed in written form but little used in live colloquial speech are analyzed. The Kalmyk language is disappearing that is why studying folklore language is a topical task of modern science.
