Abstract. The article presents a description of the thematic group "ornamentation of icons" by the material of the inventories of the Northern Russian and Middle Russian monasteries of the XVI-XVII centuries. The paper reveals the linguoculturological aspect of the documents of conventual office work, which involves the problems of linguistic source study. The author presents observations over the variational use of certain linguistic units depending on the territorial affiliation of the texts and the personal preferences of their compilers.
