CONTEMPORARY RUSSIAN PROSE IN THE MAGAZINE "THE NEW YORKER"

Butenina Evgeniya Mikhailovna
Far Eastern Federal University

Abstract. The article deals with the stories and essays of famous contemporary Russian authors published in the well-known weekly magazine "The New Yorker" from 1990 to 2015. It is concluded that for the majority of these publications an important subject is individual destiny in common history, and thus a clear advantage belongs to autobiographical texts that are close to the relevant in the English-speaking world category of non-fiction. Despite the presence of some stereotypical signs associated with Russia in these texts, it can be concluded that contemporary Russian writers are of interest for the English-speaking audience not only as educators-popularizers, but also as the followers of the traditions of Russian classics.
