Abstract. The article analyzes emergence and development of schools for working and rural youth that were the main form of on-the-job general education at that time. Main attention is paid to development of the network of these schools and change in composition of the students. The paper discloses objective and subjective causes that influenced implementation of the intake plan. The author traces changes in the number of the students of the schools for working youth according to the groups of classes during the period from 1947 to 1958.
