LIBERTY AND OVER-LITERAL RENDERING OF POETIC TRANSLATION: DICHOTOMY OR ANTINOMY?

Leont'eva Kseniya Ivanovna
Smolensk Classical University

Abstract. The status and purposes of word for word and loose translations in translation language culture are different due to the polar vector orientation to form/content and one of the cultures. The author analyzes different points of view concerning their correlation. At the same time word for word and loose translations are not mutually exclusive dichotomies but dialectic antinomies. Besides loose translation as well as over-literal rendering absolutizes one of the aspects of the original (pragmatic component) and can be considered as a pragmatic type of over-literal rendering.
Key words and phrases: поэтический перевод, вольный перевод, буквальный перевод, формализм, сенсуализм, стратегия и метод перевода, poetic translation, loose translation, word for word translation, formalism, sensualism, translation strategy and method
