"PORT-ROYAL GRAMMAR" AND COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS AS HISTORICAL STAGES OF LANGUAGE STUDY IN CONNECTION WITH CATEGORIES OF THINKING

Abstract. The author discusses the question of the interconnection between language and thinking in historical aspect, and gives brief comments on "Port-Royal Grammar", which, one of the first in the history of linguistics, posed this question and undertook an attempt to resolve it taking into account the possibilities of its time, and cognitive linguistics as a direction of language study in its close connection with the categories of thinking.
