N. V. GOGOL’S POEM "DEAD SOULS" IN GERMAN CRITICAL RECEPTION OF THE 1900-1940S

Abstract. The experience of N. V. Gogol’s poem "Dead Souls" critical reception in Germany in the first half of the XX th century is considered in the article. The results of the German literary journals and monographs review of 1900-1940 are presented. The Russian symbolist criticism influence (D. S. Merezhkovskii’s and so on) on the work comprehension process in the German culture is emphasized. The obviousness of the breakthrough in the poem reading from satire to psychoanalytical and religious-mystic interpretations, and also its inclusion in the world literature context are accentuated.
