Abstract. The author discusses the derivational problems of nouns and adjectives in the Turkic languages. Word formation as the special branch of linguistics was formed in the 40-50s of the XX th century. Two main features distinguish the researches on Turkish nominal word formation: a lot of attention to the semantics of word-formative forms; the consideration of word-formation in connection with the doctrine of the parts of speech. In ancient word-formation these meanings ?? almost always co-exist in the name, which is able to transfer both the meaning of the noun and the adjective. In modern productive word-formation the meaning of the subject and the attribute in the majority of cases are separated, because the former is expressed only by the noun, the latter – by the adjective.
