PECULIARITIES OF VOCALIZED L WRITING IN CENTRAL-FRENCH CHARTERS

Abstract. In the article the question of vocalization process graphic reflection in the Old French language is considered. The existing points of view on vocalization dating are analyzed. They are based on different interpretation of written data. In the course of the conducted analysis of the central-French charters of the XIII th century the variable writing of vocalized l is noted. It is revealed that forms with u instead of l in the position before the consonant characterize the central-French scripts, and forms with l – the eastern-French scripts.
