AUSTRALIAN MICROTOPONYMS IN ORIGINAL AND TRANSLATION (BY THE MATERIALS OF AUSTRALIAN WRITERS’ WORKS)

Abstract. In the Russian-language dictionaries and in the reference books of the linguistic and country studies the deficient number of names for the geographic objects in Australia is fixed. The Australian microtoponyms as a rule don’t have the equivalents in the Russian language and almost always present the definite complications for translators. The article states that in this case it is more preferable to use transcription which keeps the phonetic form of the geographic name to the full extent while at transliteration and calquing the initial form of a microtoponym can be distorted.
