NOVEL BY J. D. SALINGER "THE CATCHER IN THE RYE" AS INITIATION NOVEL

Abstract. In the article the work by J. D. Salinger "The Catcher in the Rye" is considered as the novel of education which objectifies the narrative of initiation rite. The analysis of narrative model is built up as the construction of rite basic stages with the detection of narrative peculiarities of typology, its functioning and transformation. The type of character, events, type of narration and chronotope are considered in the work of J. D. Salinger as the initiation novel. Objectifying the rite basic stages, the narrative of initiation in the novel "The Catcher in the Rye" transmits its decay and loss of meaning in modern society.
