BROTHERS/ БРАТЬЯ AND SISTERS/ СЕСТРЫ AS COMPONENTS OF THE LEXICAL-SEMANTIC FIELD "FAMILY" (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES)

Abstract. Lexemes "brother/брат", "sister/сестра" in the English and Russian languages are under contrastive study in the article. Their similarities and differences are revealed. The notions "brother/брат", "sister/сестра" belong to the lexical-semantic field "family" which consists of variety of connections - relations between a great number of near and distant relatives. Family members as a social group and historically formed body are tied by different relations where the lexemes "brother/брат", "sister/сестра" belong to lineal consanguinity.
