EVOLUTION OF THE BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF A SENTENCE AS A SYNTACTIC UNIT OF A MODERN ENGLISH SCIENTIFIC TEXT

Aref'eva Elena Sergeevna
Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration Stolypin Volga Region Institute of Management

Abstract. The article by the means of quantitative and qualitative analysis identifies the certain tendencies in the construction of sentences typical for an English academic article in the modern period. It’s interesting to note that for identification of such regularities the researcher uses the selection of scientific texts covering the period from 1900 to 2013. This very period allowed the author to conclude that the coherence of description which for decades was achieved by complex syntactic structures in a modern scientific text is acquired through laconism in the construction of sentences.
Key words and phrases: научный текст, простое предложение, сложное предложение, сочинительная связь, подчинительная связь, придаточное предложение, scientific text, simple sentence, complex sentence, parataxis, hypotaxis, subordinate clause
