WILLIAM TYNDALE: THE STAKE FOR THE SAKE OF A USER OF TRANSLATION

Sakhnevich Sergei Vladimirovich
The Institute of Linguistics of Russian Academy of Sciences

Abstract. In the XVI century William Tyndale was burnt at the stake for the fact that he had produced a client-oriented translation - had made the Bible text clearer for a commoner. Modern translators have no danger of the stake but they translate using so complicated constructions that an ordinary user of translation do not understand what translators make. It is time to use the experience of William Tyndale who proved that if the needs of an ordinary user of translation were the part of the translation itself, its quality would improve.
